UPS and cooling design support for engineering consultants.

From concept to confident design.

Design Assist is our technical design service for consultants and contractors specifying a data centre, comms room or critical facility. Send us your brief and our engineers help you size the UPS, select the cooling and document both, from design through to implementation.

  • UPS, battery and cooling selection from one technical team
  • Specification text, equipment schedules and budget pricing for your cost plan
  • Support from concept through to tender and construction

Critical power and cooling specialists since 2002

What we help with

Practical design input across power and cooling

Bring us your load, your site constraints and your design intent. We help turn them into equipment selections and documentation you can put your name to.

UPS sizing and topology

Right-sized UPS selections based on your load profile, growth and redundancy target.

  • N, N+1 and 2N architectures
  • Modular and standalone options
  • Input and output protection

Battery and runtime

Battery strings and runtime matched to your autonomy requirement and generator strategy.

  • VRLA and lithium-ion options
  • Runtime and end-of-life sizing
  • Space, weight and ventilation

Cooling selection and heat load

Precision cooling selections based on the real heat load of your room or hall.

  • Room, in-row and rack cooling
  • Chilled water and DX systems
  • Liquid cooling for high-density racks

Power and cooling interface

The electrical interface between your UPS and your cooling plant, worked through by one team.

  • Supply arrangements for cooling plant
  • Continuous cooling considerations
  • Coordinated plant schedules

Specification and documentation

Documentation to support your design package and tender.

  • Specification clause text
  • Equipment schedules and datasheets
  • Budget pricing for cost plans

Monitoring and integration

Monitoring that ties your power and cooling plant into one view of the site.

  • Remote monitoring and DCIM
  • Environmental and leak sensing
  • BMS interface considerations

Who it's for

Technical support for the people who specify critical infrastructure

Good critical infrastructure design starts long before equipment is selected. Design Assist gives you direct access to engineers who work with UPS systems, batteries and precision cooling every day.

Engineering consultants

Electrical and mechanical consultants preparing designs, specifications and cost plans for critical facilities.

Design and construct contractors

Contractors who need workable equipment selections and clear interface details to price and build with confidence.

Facility and IT managers

Owners planning a new comms room, an upgrade or a capacity expansion who want the brief right from the start.

Architects and project managers

Project teams who need plant footprints, weights and service clearances early, before the layout is locked in.

How it works

A simple path from brief to design

Start with as much or as little information as you have. We will work with you to fill in the gaps.

Send your brief

Share your project stage, load, site and any drawings using the enquiry form or by phone.

Technical review

Our design team reviews your requirements and talks through the options and trade-offs with you.

Selection and documentation

You receive equipment selections, supporting documentation and budget pricing for your design.

Support through delivery

We stay involved through tender, installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance.

FAQs

Design Assist questions

Common questions from consultants and project teams.

What is UPSS Design Assist?
Design Assist is UPS Solutions' technical design support for engineering consultants, contractors and project teams. Our design team helps with UPS sizing, battery runtime, precision cooling selection, monitoring and the electrical interface between power and cooling, from early concept through to tender and construction.
Who is Design Assist for?
It is built for electrical and mechanical consultants, design and construct contractors, architects, project managers and facility or IT managers who are planning a data centre, comms room or other critical facility.
At what stage of a project should we get in touch?
As early as possible. Input at concept or schematic stage helps lock in realistic plant space, weights, clearances and budgets before the layout is fixed. We can also help at design development, tender, or when you are upgrading an existing site.
Can you help with both UPS and cooling on the same project?
Yes. That is the main reason Design Assist exists. UPS Solutions works across critical power and precision cooling, so we can help with UPS selection, cooling selection and how the two connect electrically, in one conversation rather than across separate suppliers.
What information do you need to get started?
Whatever you have. An approximate IT load, your redundancy target, required runtime and the site or room details are a good start. Drawings help but are not needed for an initial conversation. You can send your details through the enquiry form.
Can you provide specification text for our design documents?
Yes. We can help with specification clause text, equipment schedules and datasheets to support your design package and tender documentation.
Do you cover liquid cooling and high-density AI racks?
Yes. Design Assist covers liquid cooling, including rear door, direct-to-chip and immersion approaches, along with the power infrastructure that high-density GPU racks need. See our GPU power and cooling page for more.
Does UPS Solutions also install and maintain the equipment?
Yes. Beyond design, UPS Solutions supplies, installs, commissions and maintains critical power and cooling equipment, so the same team can support your project from specification through to ongoing service. See our services overview.
