Perth Simulation Centre UPS Installation Case Study
Real-World Power for Real-World Mission-Critical Testing
Some power systems protect offices.
Others protect environments where failure is not an option.
UPS Solutions was engaged to deliver a critical UPS solution for the Perth Simulation Centre, supporting advanced autonomous vessel operations and workstation infrastructure connected to remote ocean inspection applications.
The project required more than standard backup power. It needed a configurable, resilient UPS system capable of supporting complex technical operations — from simulation and workstation loads through to mission-critical systems associated with a fully autonomous vessel carrying an industrial ROV for inspections via a moon pool launching system, operating in the vast ocean off Norway.
This was not a simple plug-and-play installation.
It was a real-world power solution for a real-world operational environment.
The Challenge
The Perth Simulation Centre required reliable, uninterrupted power protection across multiple critical systems.
The environment involved advanced simulation technology, workstation infrastructure, and operational systems supporting autonomous marine inspection capability. Any interruption to power could disrupt testing, simulation, monitoring, or mission-critical workflows.
The solution needed to be:
- Robust enough for critical technical operations
- Flexible enough to support the site’s configuration
- Scalable for future requirements
- Suitable for both workstation and larger 3-phase loads
- Installed in a clean, serviceable rack-based configuration
With critical systems depending on stable power, the UPS infrastructure had to be designed for performance, resilience and adaptability.
The Solution
UPS Solutions deployed dual 3-phase 20kVA XRT-MTX Matrix Series UPS systems operating in parallel, supported by XRT6 Online UPS units for workstation protection.
The XRT-MTX Matrix Series was selected for its flexible configuration, strong 3-phase capability and suitability for demanding technical environments. The system was installed in a rack-based configuration, providing a clean, compact and serviceable UPS deployment.
The XRT6 units provided additional protection for workstation loads, ensuring connected users and supporting systems remained protected during power disturbances.
Together, the solution delivered layered protection across both larger infrastructure loads and workstation-level equipment.
Why the Matrix Series Was the Right Fit
The XRT-MTX Matrix Series is designed for environments that need reliable, configurable and high-performance UPS protection.
For this project, adaptability was key.
The XRT-MTX platform allowed UPS Solutions to deliver a system suited to the site’s operational requirements, while still allowing room for future flexibility. Its rack-mounted design, 3-phase capability and parallel system configuration made it well suited to the demands of the Perth Simulation Centre.
This installation demonstrates how the Matrix Series can support more than traditional commercial backup power.
It can be configured for complex, technical and mission-critical environments where uptime, flexibility and serviceability all matter.
Installation & Commissioning
UPS Solutions supplied, installed and commissioned the UPS infrastructure as part of a complete power protection deployment.
The installation included:
- Dual 3-phase 20kVA XRT-MTX UPS systems in parallel
- XRT6 UPS units for workstation protection
- Rack-based UPS integration
- Battery and cabling configuration
- System commissioning and operational checks
The final installation provided a clean, organised and serviceable UPS arrangement, supporting the Perth Simulation Centre’s operational and technical requirements.
The Outcome
The Perth Simulation Centre now has a resilient UPS system protecting critical simulation and operational infrastructure.
The installation provides reliable backup power for advanced technical systems and workstation environments, helping ensure continuity during power disturbances and supporting mission-critical workflows from concept through to completion.

Real-World Power. Real-World Results.
This project shows what the UPS Solutions Matrix Series was built for: adaptable, high-performance power protection for environments that cannot afford unnecessary downtime.
From simulation centres and marine technology to data centres, commercial infrastructure and industrial applications, UPS Solutions designs UPS systems around the environment they need to protect.
Not every site is the same.
The power protection should not be either.
