In 2025, UPS Solutions partnered with Western Sydney University (WSU) to support the development of the world’s first AI supercomputer capable of brain-scale simulation. The Challenge:
Building a supercomputer of this scale presented several unique challenges:

High-Density Power Demands: Unlike conventional data centres operating at 3kW per rack, this project required 20kW per rack, far exceeding standard setups.

Space Constraints & Infrastructure Limitations: The designated area lacked standard data centre infrastructure such as raised floors, anti-static flooring, and efficient cooling systems.

Cost Efficiency & Scalability: A traditional data centre build was too costly and inefficient, necessitating a compact, energy-efficient alternative.

Safety & Monitoring Requirements: The solution needed to integrate temperature, humidity, smoke, and leak detection, along with security features like fire suppression and magnetic locking systems.
The Solution:
To meet WSU’s stringent requirements, UPS Solutions designed and deployed the AgileRax Micro Data Centre—a fully-contained, high-density system capable of supporting next-generation AI research.
The solution included:

2 x XRT-3PH 40kVA UPS Systems: Ensuring N+N redundancy for uninterrupted power supply.

2 x 40kW CRX4 In-Row CRAC Units: Providing precision cooling for heavy computational loads.
